What to Look Forward to This Holiday Weekend: Philly Sports Edition

Happy 4th of July weekend everyone!!! I’m going to be honest with you there is not a whole lot to look forward to as a Philly sports fan this weekend. Thanks Ruben!…However here is a list of things to look forward to anyway.

1. Eagles Training Camp: OK we are still 3 weeks away from the Birds officially starting training camp. That doesn’t mean we can’t start talking about Eagles football.

When you’re at a family BBQ or on the beach, it’s time to start talking about Chip Kelly’s 2nd season as head coach. No, there will not be be a starting QB battle like last preseason but there are still plenty of things to discuss.

Who will step up on the offensive line with Johnson suspended? Will Mathis hold out?
How will Foles look in his first full training camp as a starter?
Who wins the backup QB job? Barkley or Sanchez?
Who wins the FG kicker job? Murder Leg or Alex Henry?
Who will start at strong saftey? Wolff or Allen?

2. 76ers Summer League: If there was ever a time to get excited about the Sixers summer league it would be the debut of Nerlens Noel.
Noel will play in a Sixer uniform for the first time on Saturday afternoon.

It will be interesting to see how Noel’s developed. Of course, the main thing is for him to stay healthy. It’s the NBA summer league, so he’s going against a lot of guys who will end up in the D-League.

Still, you would like to see Noel dominate especially on the defensive side of the ball.

3. Phillies Hats: This is about the only thing to look forward to as a Phillie fan right now. The phils will wear a special stars & stripes cap on July 4th. The new era cap you see to the left is the Phillies All-Star game hat. The only player who will be wearing this cap, is Chase Utley when it’s announced he’s the starting 2nd basemen for the N.L.

The Phils are away against the Pirates this weekend, so you can torture yourself into watching that.

4. Flyers off-season moves- Hexy has made smaller moves so far this off-season. It seems to me that he might be setting some things up to make a trade. As we all know, the Flyers don’t have the cap space to sign many players in free agency. I’m fine with Hextall remaining calm and picking up little pieces here and there.

There has been a lot of money thrown around for players like Niskannen but Hexy is standing his ground. It kind of reminds me of when Pat Gillick took over the Phil’s in 2006. Smart and calculated moves that led to a WS championship.

If none of this gets you excited for the weekend then I’m sure we can find a ROCKY marathon on TV.
“Yo Paulie, your sisters with me”

Get outside and play horseshoes, washers, ladder ball, and wiffle ball. Drink some beer and eat some hot dogs its a great weekend to be an American!!!
