Observations and Grades from Sunday vs. Dallas

Well, what a difference two weeks makes. Dallas looked a like a dead duck and the Eagles looked one of the best teams in the league. On Sunday, it was the complete opposite. The Cowboys looked good while the Eagles looked not so good.  They were down 21-0 by the 2nd quarter. The Birds fought back to take the lead in the 3rd. But, they couldn’t overcome turnovers and not one, not two, but three Dez Bryant touchdowns. It was a disgusting scene at the Linc to see those Dallas cockroaches celebrate as Dallas won 38-27.

The Grades

Offense
QB Mark Sanchez was very up and down. He went 17 of 28 for 252 yards and two interceptions. RB LeSean McCoy had 64 yards on 16 carries. RB’s Chris Polk had two rushing touchdowns and Darren Sproles had one rushing touchdown. WR Jeremy Maclin had four catches for 98 yards. TE Brent Celek had four catches for 52 yards. TE Zach Ertz had three catches for 32 yards. The offensive line gave up four sacks. For the 2nd week in a row, the offense was lackluster. Missed passes, turnovers, and just poor execution. It was unlike a Chip Kelly group to play so poorly in a big game.
Grade: C-

Defense
The Eagles defense allowed more than 360 yards of Dallas offense. The defense only got three sacks of Romo and allowed Dez Bryant to “X Out” the Eagles crowd. They did hold RB DeMarco Murray under 100 yards again. They just couldn’t keep Dallas out of the endzone. FS Malcolm Jenkins had seven tackles. LB Connor Barwin had five tackles and a sack. They allowed Dallas to score 21 points out the gate. After the Eagles took the lead in the 3rd quarter, they allowed Dallas to go 78 yards and score a touchdown. They killed the Eagles spirit right there. The defense needed to get a stop right there and they didn’t. It’s what changed the game.
Grade: D+

Special Teams
Even the Special Team couldn’t get off the right foot. On the opening kickoff, KR Josh Huff couldn’t field the short kick and allowed Dallas to recover the kick. It would lead to their opening points. K Cody Parkey was 2 of 2 in Field Goals with a long of 47. P Donnie Jones had three punts with an average of 52.3 yards per punt. Other than the fumbled kick, the unit did their job. They limited Dallas to average field position and kept the Eagles in the game.
Grade: B-

The Team
The Eagles really blew an opportunity. They could have been one game up on Dallas in the NFC East and could clinch the division this coming week. Now, the Eagles need to win the final two games and needs Dallas to lose one of their final two games to reclaim the NFC East. The Eagles shouldn’t worry about Dallas and their schedule. They need to stay focused and win the final two games to keep their playoff hopes alive.
